Good production, high longevity, super conformation and outcross; traits that are music to your ears. Niemeijers Rolling Stone Red (Ryder x Agent x Malando) lives up to his name. In addition, powerfully built Rolling Stone Red is the product of a new line from a cow family that has never previously supplied a bull to an AI organisation.
The cow family in question is the Johanna line: one that is showing considerable growth in the herd. An important contributing factor is the durability of the Johanna cows, which means they produce a higher than average number of progeny. We have not often tested a bull who has three generations of his maternal line on a farm. Rolling Stone Red’s dam, grand dam and great grand dam are still all active - and very healthy - members of the herd. The milk production of his third dam Johanna 18 (EX 90) now totals 115,000 kg of milk with an average of 5.16% fat and 3.81% protein. This EX ranked Jorden daughter has also smashed the barrier of 10,000 kg of fat and protein. Johanna 18 is not only pleasing to see - she took home the title of champion at the cattle show in Espelo and has been shown at the NRM - she also excels as a brood cow. At least six of her daughters are being milked, including Pleasure daughter Johanna 27 with lifetime production to date of 78,000 kg, Malando daughter Johanna 31 with lifetime production until now in excess of 65,000 kg and Malando daughter Johanna 29. This Johanna 29 has already yielded almost 70,000 kg of milk and is the grand dam of Rolling Stone Red. In the following generation we find the absolute star of the family at the moment: Johanna 39. Rolling Stone Red's dam scores 92 points for her fabulous conformation and has claimed titles including reserve champion at the cattle show in Espelo. In addition, her lactation values of 113, 110 and 119 respectively prove that she certainly knows how to produce milk.
