If you are aiming for cows that have a slightly more compact frame combined with good udders, correct legs and good components then a bull like Dijkstar Vulcan (Vitesse x Malki x Snowfever) can go a long way to helping you succeed. His aAa-code (153) already indicates this and the bulls in his pedigree also transmit this pattern to their daughters. His pedigree (counting only breeding bulls with extremely reliable breeding values) includes the successful Ricky family on his maternal side, known for bulls like Ranger and Riverboy.
The Ricky line, which is found in Vulcan's maternal bloodline, has regularly received positive coverage in the news in recent years. This component-rich cow family has also been highly successful in breeding bulls. The first (Dutch-born) bull from this line to become a breeding bull/bull sire is the red factor Riverboy, an Aikman son out of Planet daughter Ricky (VG 86 and the great grand dam of Vulcan). Via Sterngold daughter Ricky 2 (VG 88) we arrive at two Snowfever daughters, Ricky 8 (VG 88) and Ricky 9 (VG 87) who are producing very good calves. Ricky 9 is the dam of breeding bull Rotary, while Ricky 8 numbers three breeding bulls among her offspring. The same Ricky 8, Vulcan's grand dam, is also dam to three remarkably high scoring sons: Rush Hour, Rodeo and Ranger. They particularly excel in components and conformation, a pattern that is also shown by Ricky 1 (Vulcan's dam).
Similar to in Vulcan’s maternal pedigree, components are the winning trait in his paternal pedigree in the shape of Vitesse - matched with a good plus for milk production. Vitesse's daughters might not be the largest cows in the herd, but they have good width, good udders and move very well on nicely sloping legs. Vulcan can therefore comfortably be described as a proven all-round bull.
