About Sem 17

Fries-Hollands bull Sem 17 is new to K.I. SAMEN. Sem 17 is bred by Mts. Van Dam-Faber. He descends form the durable and fertile Setske family. Durability and namely the high protein in his maternal line ensures that there is interest in this bull. The use of Sem 17 has been undertaken in close collaboration with a group of well-respected British Friesian breeders. Their search for high-quality fresh blood brought them to Sem 17.

Sem 17 descends from the Renske family on both his dam and sire’s side. This family stands for quality udders with strikingly good attachments and teat placement.  The frames are balanced and especially the rump placement is very correct. This cow family shows a strikingly good fertility in combination with high production. Dam Setske 243 realized in her first five lactations an in-between-calves time of 365 days. Though on the other hand she was also easily pregnant and in her short lists gave a minimal of  6,000 liters with protein percentages between 3,59 and 3,80 on average per lactation. This durability, fertility and high protein is something we can trace back to the dam and great-grand-dam of Setske 243.

The partnership Van Dam-Faber can be seen, without a doubt, as a grass fed farm. The Fries-Hollands cows need to get as much energy as possible out of their dry matter. Also making this is a reason to recommend this bull. In countries where K.I. SAMEN is very active such as Ireland, Great Britain, New Zealand, Chili and Tanzania it’s important that cows there can get their energy from their grass feed. Though even in the Netherlands the demand for good FH bulls is increasing for grass fed farms.

Sem 17 has the much requested for 513 aAa code. The qualities 5 and the 1 are as much needed within the FH breed, as well as in the HF breed. K.I. SAMEN believes that the somewhat deviant family tree of Sem 17 and his qualities shall lead to successful results for the dairy farmer. The daughters of Sem 17 will probably be durability, fertile and problem free and this in combination with a good milk production level with high protein. The first collaboration between K.I. SAMEN and the British Friesian breeders will hopefully lead to good results for the dairy farmers in the Netherlands, Great Britain and abroad.
