About Roberti van de Veneburen

Recently, K.I. SAMEN has put a black Lakenvelder bull called Roberti van den Veneburn to use.  Roberti was bred on the farm of Arie den Blanken in Makkinga, which was designated in 2016 by the Rare Dutch Breed Survival Trust (SZH) as a Recognised Breeding Centre.

The technical commission for breeding of the Lakenvelder Association is, in the search for new bulls for breeding, always on the lookout for bloodlines of suitable candidates as an artificial insemination bull. It is therefore of great importance to maintain sufficient bloodlines within the small population of the Lakenvelders. Roberti fits this profile quite well. Since natural service of the bulls is almost always used at the Veneburen farm, the contribution of artificial insemination bulls in their pedigree is relatively small. Many of the popular A.I. bulls used like:  Cor, Heiko, Toon, Ormelo’s Gijs, Jeroen, Wilex 1 and Sjaak are missing altogether in his pedigree.

Roberti descends from the well-known ‘Roos’ maternal line. Herd-mother Roos was one of the first Lakenvelders on the van den Blanken farm, which was roughly 20 years. Many of her descendants have achieved since then the status required by the Pedigree Herdbook. Rosemarie van den Veneburen, the grand dam of Roberti, was Most Valuable Brood Cow, as well as being recognized by the Herdbook.  Valuable brood cows can even be found in his pedigree on the sire’s side. Roberti’s sire is Jannus 24, bred by Jan Willem Velthuis from Elsloo (Limburg). And if you know Velthuis, then you know Blacky – namely Blacky 14, Herdbook approved and Valuable Brood Cow. Jannus’ sire Oscar is a son of the Valuable Brood Cow and Herdbook cow Wima van der Linden in Mariahout.

Overall, enough good genes which could turn Roberti into a valuable sire for our Lakenvelder breeding. Roberti is registered in the Herdbook as a breeding bull, with 86 points for General Characteristics. His highest score reached for the data sheet was 90 points. Further, he scored positive for content and depth of body capacity. The expectations are that Roberti will be suitable for use as an easy, calving bull. Research has further uncovered that Roberti is not a red factor carrier, therefore will only produce black calves. We look forward to the breeding results of Roberti with confidence.
